The School Year is Officially open! (Homeschool that is!)

School year is officially open! ( Homeschool that is!)
We started back full time today. I am using a variation of the workbox system. My only problem is getting the boxes filled. I did not do it yesterday as I planned, since we went to the zoo. So it was a slow start this morning. The older kids seemed to like having it layed out like this. I am just doing the youngest two now. I let them play this morning while I worked out the system with the older ones.
I really think once I get MY act together this will be a lot easier on me in the long run. NO LOST BOOKS! WHOOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 15 year old who is not doing workboxes. Then I have an 8th grader, two 7th graders, a 5th, a 4th, a 2nd, and a 1st grader. ( though actually they cross over grades in some subjects- I am not huge on grade levels…if I did not have to “label” them for the state I would not :))
Have you started the year yet? How is it going?
I am interested to hear how and what each of you is doing! Hugs, Barbara

Homeschooling! A new year is about to begin!

August 25th, 2009
We are doing workboxes this year. I just have too many for them to share shelves anymore. We spent half our time looking for books that had been moved as the school day went on. With 9 kids pulling from the same shelves for every subject it was too much. My older ones are using the workboxes more as a storage place. The younger ones are getting more the workbox style- with different things in the boxes different days. At least I hope that is how it will work- day 1 you know!!
All the kids liked this though and i really did too! Much more organized and less work for me in the long run. Hugs, Barbara

Hope your weekend was happy!

August 10th, 2009
Good morning! Rise and shine, it is a wonderful day!Fill it with sweet things!
I painted the little girls room over the week-end. It is now a med. blue with a fairy border around the ceiling. I still need to finish the trim and I am going to paint the bed. We got rid of their old bunkbeds, and moved in the ones from the older girls room. It is a really nice set, but I want to paint it to match the room. Right now it is plain white.
Of course that means both girls rooms are torn apart at the moment. LOL. I have a busy week ahead of me. Need to repaint the big girls room before we get their new beds in there.
Today is Tim’s birthday. Poor guy has to work. So we had his party yesterday. Colin and Kevin came out and Dylan was home. It was fun but ( as usual) a weird day. I had pumkin pies in the oven- hubby likes pie, not cake for his birthday. Anyway, went to check it…oven cold! My gas had run out! Called and they came out to fill the tank…2 hours later. So, no way to get pies done on time, or make supper. So a trip to town to buy frozen, ready to eat, lime pies and pizza.LOL! Hubby had pumpin pie before bed though!
Imagine two pulled apart rooms, no gas, and a birthday party. LOL! It was really a great time. My crew goes with the flow- thank goodness! Oh, and the washer clogged. Hubby was able to fix that in less than 30 min though….HAHAHA!
Hope your weekend made some memories. :) Hugs, Barbara
